The Zhong Neng Offshore Wind Power Project, located off the coast of Changhua in central Taiwan, is a significant renewable energy initiative with a planned electricity generation capacity of 298MW. The project is being spearheaded by China Steel Power Corporation (CSPC), a collaboration between Taiwan’s China Steel Corporation (CSC) and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). With an estimated investment ranging between £1.32bn ($1.75bn) and £1.45bn ($1.92bn), the wind farm is set to commence construction in 2023 and aims to be operational by 2025.
The offshore wind farm will span an area of 36.54km^2, situated 10km to 17km offshore from Changhua’s west coast. The project will feature 31 turbines supplied by Vestas, each with a rated power of 9.5MW. The turbines will be equipped with 85m-long blades and will have a rotor diameter of 174m. Additionally, the project will include a submarine cable system and an onshore substation. The cable system will comprise 29 inner array grid cables and four 66kV landfall export cables, totaling approximately 196km in length.
Given the challenges and complexities associated with such a large-scale offshore wind project, OEI’s role in providing Technical Support Services to Sing Da Marine Structure (SMDS) is crucial. OEI’s commitment to excellence and its expertise in the renewable energy sector ensures that the project will be executed with precision and efficiency. Leveraging its vast experience, OEI has deployed 30 skilled welders, foremen, and supervisors to the SDMS site in Taiwan. These professionals underwent rigorous welder qualification processes in Vietnam, certified by DNV, before being relocated to Taiwan for on-site operations. This collaboration underscores OEI’s dedication to upholding the highest standards of quality and safety in all its endeavors.
